Poor Is Just a Word

I had a fantastic dinner last night with my Husband, children, and mother in law.  We had Butter beans, potatoes, and cornbread.  It was good, not something that I grew up on, but still good.

My husband seemed to be so at home eating this dish, and his mom was quiet pleased with making it.  I felt like I was in a Norman Rockwell dinning room.  Then I realized that this dish was probably somewhat of a feast for them.  And then I realized that Poor is a just a word - and while there is a definition and a status, it can be convoluted.

Looking back on the dishes my husband brought into the marriage, we pretty much eat what he ate.  Breaded pork chops, Meatloaf, Fried cabbage, Fried taters and sausage, and chili are all staples that he would cook.  They are good meals, filling meals, and also - cheap meals.

It costs me about 3.00bucks to make Fried taters and sausage.  Costs me around that much to make fried cabbage.  The only reason why it's that much is because the smoked sausage is 2.50.

Right now my family and I are in the super lean times.  We are holding on by the skin of our teeth and even that is starting to give way.  And while we are 'poor' in the eyes of the public, and to the government (possible food stamps and all) I realized that we are not really poor.  All the goofy cliche's are right.  We have what we need, we love what we have, and we have each other (which is most important).
